MPP Jim McDonell Congratulates New Premier, Demands Legislature Re-Opens

January 27, 2013

CORNWALL – Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell congratulates Kathleen Wynne on winning the leadership of the Liberal Party of Ontario and highlights the need to get the Legislature back to work as soon as possible.

“I join Tim Hudak and the Ontario PC Caucus in sincerely congratulating Ms Wynne on her victory. She inherits a Province that faces great fiscal challenges and requires immediate reform to get back on track. While her predecessor, Dalton McGuinty, presided over the squandering of Ontario’s prosperity, Ms Wynne should focus on job creation and long-term economic health. This can only be done by addressing the Province’s deficit and debt burden through wiser and thriftier spending and putting the interests of job seekers and job creators above the interest of immediate political gain”, – MPP McDonell said in a statement.

The Legislature has been shut down since Dalton McGuinty’s October prorogation for the purpose of allowing the Liberal Party to select a new Leader. MPP Jim McDonell insists it’s time to return to work: “On Monday, Tim Hudak, the PC Caucus and I will be in Queen’s Park, ready to discuss with the new Premier the policies to return Ontario to its rightful place as the economic engine of Canada. Reform demands a sitting House, so we hope Ms Wynne will do what’s right for Ontario and re-open the Legislature immediately.”
