MPP Jim McDonell Takes Second Street Hospital Site Issue to Legislature

February 11, 2013

CORNWALL – MPP Jim McDonell is demanding that the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care conduct a study on the future need of long-term care beds and community care in our region before any final decision is made on the future or sale of the Second Street site.

“I have written to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care demanding a study of our community’s needs prior to a sale of the Cornwall General Hospital site. The Auditor-General’s report states that our CCAC has the longest average wait times for a long-term care bed – it is unacceptable for our seniors, who built a prosperous Ontario, to have to wait over three years to be placed. Our community has the right to know where this Government intends to take us before we lose a medical building which, at least, is a short-term solution. I have also uploaded a petition to my website that I encourage people to sign. There are also copies available for signing in my constituency office. I shall present the petition in the Legislature when it reopens next week. The residents of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry deserve an answer”.

The petition can be downloaded from or signed in the constituency office at 120 Second St West.
