MPPs Jim Wilson and Jim McDonell Consult on Poverty Reduction Strategy in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry

August 27, 2014

CORNWALL – MPP Jim Wilson, Leader of the Official Opposition, visited Cornwall today in order to hear local concerns about the provincial Poverty Reduction Strategy at a consultation session hosted by MPP Jim McDonell. Local agencies & organizations attended, voicing their concerns, outlining their needs, and sharing their experiences of providing local residents with services, support, and training to help them overcome the challenge of poverty.

“We need to give every Ontarian a chance to succeed, while helping local agencies deliver services with efficiency, care, and compassion,” said Ontario PC Interim Leader Jim Wilson.

During province-wide consultations on an updated Poverty Reduction Strategy, no session was officially held in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry by the government. So on January 21, 2014, MPP Jim McDonell co-hosted a community consultation in Finch together with the Social Development Council and the House of Lazarus, bringing forward a report with recommendations on addressing the root causes of poverty in the region.

“Thanks to our spirit of giving back to the community, Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry residents have access to numerous support networks and agencies to assist them in times of need” – MPP Jim McDonell commented. “It is important for the government to take local experience and knowledge into account in order to deliver the best services in the most efficient way possible. We will take today’s feedback to Queen’s Park to ensure local providers can count on the provincial government to be responsive to their needs.”
