MPP McDonell Tables Motion for Local Drivers

March 11, 2016

QUEEN’S PARK – MPP Jim McDonell submitted a motion in the Legislature Thursday calling on the Ministry of Transportation to ‎bring down the unacceptable wait time for a medical reinstatement of a driver’s license.

The Motion reads: In the opinion of this House, the Ministry of Transportation should institute a five business day service guarantee for re-instating drivers’ licenses suspended for medical reasons following certification by a physician that the person is fit to drive

“Hundreds of constituents have signed my petition on the subject” MPP McDonell commented. “The Government is yet to respond and they continue to put many residents of SDSG at risk of losing their livelihood. Unlike in downtown Toronto where the Minister of Transportation hails from, ‎in our region most people can’t take the bus to work – they have to drive. Forcing them to wait 30 business days despite being certified by a physician as medically fit to drive is a job-killing policy”

Motions remain on the Order Paper of the Legislature until the time ‎they are either called for debate or the Legislature is prorogued.
